Little Town of 86 Year Old Catholics
Let's start this one off talking about Las Varillas! For those who didn't read last tike, I got transferred to the pueblito called Las Varillas! I have only been here for 6 days and this is problably my favorite area! The greatest part is the amount of times we get rejected! Las Varillas is full of 86 year old Catholics, every person we talk to is above the age of 70, and is actively attending the church! They all give us the same response, I'm to old to change religions!
Even though this place is full of old people, all the young people are swimming in money! You'll just be walking and see the houses turn into 3 floor, indoor pool, quartz counter tops, and movie theaters! I even saw the newest Bronco, jeep, and a ford F350! All those cars hace to get imported! When we knock a door we always guess who Will come out, a Raging 86 year old Catholic or a super rich young adult!
But one thing I love is the Basketball Here! Your problably thinking that I'm lying, because all of Argentina is a soccer country, But not Las Varillas! Las Varillas loves basketball! The reason why is because 2 people have been drafted to the NBA who were born and raised! One is currently playing, and the other I think is already retired! I don't know there names, but that's pretty cool! They also have 3 professional clubs of basketball, which are huge! The best part was I contacted a guy on the street, and he gave us his number and invited us to come play basketball with him and his team! So hopefully I get to ball out with some professional Argentine Basketball players!
(Dad and Steve, this is the place to run some hoop camps!)
Now a little about my week! We have 6 on date, 4 for the 15th of June, and also 2 for the 22nd! I get to baptize somebody on my birthday!!!! The Best birthday present!!!! We got the opportunity to put 12 fechas, but only half of then pulled up to church!
Spiritual Thought
D&C 11:10
10: Behold, thou hast a gift, or thou shalt have a gift if thou wilt desire of me in faith, with an honest heart, believing in the power of Jesus Christ, or in my power which speaketh unto thee;
Desire him in Faith, and he will bless you with a lot of gifts!
This transfer has so far been amazingly funny, and very enjoyable! My comp and I just love laughing, and making the people in the street laugh!
Nothings better then seeing a 90 year old grandpa smile because we commented on his super cool sweater! I hope you all have a great week! I hope you guys can write me in an email, I know a bunch of my friends are leaving on their missions right now, so if you are please send my your mission emails! And put me on your list!
